"It always seems impossible until it is done" - Nelson Mandela

While the payment of wages may seem like a simple concept, wage and hour issues can be challenging, no matter how frequently you deal with them.

Payroll tax regulations can be complicated and confusing, and when our clients are busy running their business it can be difficult to stay up-to-date with any changes.

Even so they are still responsible for accurate payroll reporting, and mistake can result in costly penalties from HMRC.

With the introduction of Real Time Information (RTI) many employers struggled with accurate and timely reporting.

RTI is the most significant change ever made to PAYE, and was bought about to make PAYE submissions more efficient – essentially it means that payroll information needs to be submitted to HMRC each time you pay your employees, rather than just once a year at payroll year end. PAYE still needs to be processed in the same way, but payroll information need to be submitted to HMRC on or before the day that each employee is paid.

We take raw payroll data from employers, employees and HMRC and input the information into our Sage payroll system. We can then manipulate that info into all reports and submissions needed to ensure that pay is allocated correctly and that all tax and deductions are properly collected, as well as processing leavers, registering new employees and advising on sick/maternity/paternity/adoption pay.

Some clients require weekly processing and some monthly: we adapt our service to the specific needs of the client and how they choose to deal with employee payroll. We deal with a wide range of needs, from Director only companies to those with a great number of shift workers and we’re always best advised about how to save the client tax by our accounts team – as you can imagine it keeps us quite busy!

Payroll is a necessary evil for most business owners, but by completing payroll service on our clients behalf I know we are able to keep them compliant, reduce the risk of unnecessary penalties, and save them the cost of in-house labour, training and software – for a lot of our small to medium business owners this makes a huge difference, and I’m happy to help.

A lot of my time at the moment is also spent looking at the Auto Enrolment pension scheme, having staged a couple of our bigger clients already this year. I’ll be updating on that in another blog very soon – so sign up to our blog post for notifications!

Bye for now!
